Unit 9. Science.

Read the texts and do the following exercises.

Scientific development started in ancient times.

Many scientists from different nations and cultures worked on different branches on science.

Ancient Egyptians were very interested in astronomy.

They calculated the movements of the objects in the sky.

Ancient Greeks made great discoveries on mathematics, astronomy and medicine.

Muslims and people from the Roman also helped improve science.

Scientists are working on many different projects nowadays.

The flying car is one of them.

Many scientists are working on flying cars and they guess they will be ready to use soon.

The Android robot is another project at present.

These robots will take care of our houses, serve meals and protect buildings.

I feel very excited when I think about these projects.

Science classes and labs are very important for learning about science,

but they aren't always safe places.

Many accidents can happen there.

Thousands of people have serious health problems in labs every year,

so we should use safety equipment.

We should use glasses, masks and safety suit when we are in labs.

They can protect us from many risks.

Keeping in touch with others was very difficult in the past.

Before Graham Bell invented the telephone, people had to use messenger birds, smoke signals

or the radio to keep in touch with each other.

In 1983, Martin Cooper invented the first mobile phone and it was an amazing development.

After the invention of smartphones in 1994, contacting others became much easier.

Thousands of great scientists have helped people to make the world a better place.

They made great discoveries to develop science.

All of these people are very important, but a researcher prepared a list of the most popular scientists throughout history.

Top five scientists in the list are Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Isaac Newton, Nicola Tesla and Ada Lovelace.

We should be thankful to all these scientists.

They influenced other scientists to create a modern world.
