Unit 4. Exercise 14. Read and listen to the text.
A famous communication professor gave us very interesting details about
teenagers' communication habits on her video blog. In one of her studies, she
asked her fans some questions on a social media platform to rank their
communication habits. The first question was, how do you communicate with your
friends? 65 % of the participants said they prefer face -to -face communication.
30 % of the participants said they like texting messages. 5 % of the
participants said they talk on the phone. We can understand that teenagers don't
like making phone calls anymore. Her second question was, why do you use video
chats? 70 % of the participants said that they use video chats because it
combines some characteristics of face -to -face interaction with the ease of
technology. Also, 50 % of the video chatters said they make their calls to do
their homework. Throughout history, people used many different types of
communication. So, the professor finally asked, what will be the future way of
communication? 90 % of the participants said that a lot of people will communicate
through social networks. This isn't very surprising because we all love to
share, comment on and like posts and communicate through them. Most of the
teenagers see their mobile phones as the most popular social tool, a way of
belonging.
