People also use many social media applications on their smartphones.

These are for chatting, texting, sharing pictures and videos, meeting people, and dating.

The most popular messaging application is WhatsApp, with 42 billion daily messages.

WhatsApp has 1 billion active users monthly.

Texting on WhatsApp is similar to SMS texting, but it is free when you have a prepaid internet package,

because WhatsApp uses the internet to send messages.

People can also use WhatsApp for group chatting, voice messages, and location sharing.

Instagram is another popular social media application.

People use it mostly for photo sharing.

It has 500 million active users monthly.

They share over 95 million posts a day.

Users can also share 15 second videos on Instagram.

They can share photos and videos publicly or just with friends.

They can share them either on Instagram or on other networking sites.

And there is Twitter, a free messaging application.

Its users can send and read 140 character messages or tweets.

Others can only read these messages.

Twitter has 310 million active monthly users posting 340 million tweets daily.

Twitter is very popular with celebrities too.
