Ok, now let's move on to the next issue. It is about a young person who spent so much
time on the internet that she had to ask for help from the experts. Our reporter Amanda
Parker has the whole story. Over to you Amanda.
Hello John. As you said, a young woman, Sheila James, who lives here in Seattle, had to ask
for help and support when she started facing problems due to her internet addiction.
19 year old Sheila spent a lot of hours online every day playing games or chatting on social
media. She became so addicted to surfing the internet that she stopped doing all other
activities, even eating. What's more, she failed her university exams. Sheila realised
that this wasn't normal, but she couldn't stop it. She said that spending time on the
internet was the only thing that made her happy and that she felt popular in that online
world. Experts say that nowadays this situation is called internet addiction disorder or IAD
and is very common among young people. People with IAD are so addicted to the internet
that they stop all their other everyday activities. Fortunately Sheila agreed to join an internet
addiction rehab centre. She spent 45 days without any internet access and learnt how to use
the internet correctly. Amanda Parker for BCB News. Back to you John.
