Suleiman I, 1520 -1566, a Sultan with many titles.

In the West, people used to call this Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

In the East, Suleiman the Lawgiver.

But he had many other titles, such as Lord of the Lords of this world, and King of Kings.

Perhaps the most interesting, however, was refuge of all the people in the whole world.

This shows that Suleiman knew very well that his empire was multicultural.

It stretched for hundreds, if not thousands, of miles in all directions.

Suleiman reorganized the Turkish law system, and during his reign an amazing culture developed,

especially in literature, music, art, and architecture.

Magnificent was definitely a perfect title for this important historical figure.

Soon after the end of the First World War, on 1 November 1922, the Ottoman Empire came to an end,

and a way of life that lasted from the Middle Ages into the 20th century was gone.

A year later, in its place, there was the Republic of Turkey, and modern Turkey's history began.
