Listen and check your answers. The Nile River has always contributed to life in most areas of Egypt
However, the Nile also made life difficult when it flooded
So the Egyptian government decided to build a dam to control the Nile
They began the construction of the Oswan Dam in 1960
However, when they drew the plans, they discovered that the two great temples at Abu Simbal
would be forever lost
Egypt wanted help from the United Nations Agency UNESCO
The governments of the world provided technical help and financial aid to save the great temples
First, they began to cut the temples away from the rock mountain
Secondly, they carried each large piece 60 meters up the mountain to a safer area
Then they rebuilt the huge temples carefully and
Finally, they finished the work in 1968
today
Abu Simbal is safe
It will continue to honor the ancient king and his queen for many years to come
