The lion and the mouse.

The lion is the king of the forest.

He is very big and strong.

He lives in a big cave in the forest.

He likes sleeping in the afternoon.

All the animals are afraid of King Lion.

They can't go near him.

It is summertime now.

The weather is hot and sunny.

All the animals in the forest are very happy.

It's a beautiful day, says the bird.

Let's sing.

You can sing and I can dance, says the monkey.

The weather is wonderful.

Let's stay here by the lake, says the elephant to the deer.

Then King Lion comes.

He is very tired and he wants to sleep.

Listen, everybody, be quiet.

Don't make any noise, he roars.

King Lion lies under the tree in front of his cave.

He falls asleep quickly.

The birds fly away and the monkey climbs a tree.

All the animals are very careful and quiet.

They don't want to make the lion angry.

Then the mouse comes out of her house.

She is small and weak, but she is very friendly.

She has got big ears and a small nose.

She likes playing games with her friends.

Let's swim in the lake. It's very hot today.

Says the mouse to her friend.

No, says her friend. The lion is sleeping near the lake.

Why don't we play hide and seek?

Says the little mouse. I hide and you try to find me first.

The friend mouse closes his eyes and starts to count.

One, two, three.

He says, go and hide. I can find you.

The mouse starts running. She is very fast.

Then she comes near the lion.

She wants to climb the tree.

The monkey is on another tree.

He sees the mouse and shouts.

Go away, little mouse. Don't go there.

You will wake the lion up. Don't worry.

Says the mouse. We are playing hide and seek.

My friend can't find me in the tree. It's a good place to hide.

The mouse doesn't listen to the monkey.

And she tries to climb the tree.

She first climbs the lion's tail.

But he doesn't wake up.

Then she climbs towards the lion's head.

Now the mouse is very close to the tree.

Suddenly the lion wakes up and says,

what's this noise?

He opens his eyes and sees the mouse on his head.

He is very angry. He roars loudly.

Screams the mouse. She wants to run away.

But it's too late. She is in the lion's hand now.

Look at you, says King Lion.

You are a little mouse and I'll eat you.

You are my snack for the evening.

The mouse is scared.

Please don't eat me, King Lion. She says,

I can help you one day. Let me go. Please.

King Lion starts to laugh.

You are very funny. You are a small and a weak mouse.

How can you help me? He says.

I don't know, but I may help you one day. Please don't eat me.

Says the mouse.

The lion is no longer angry. Just go away now.

I want to sleep. He says.

He lets the mouse leave and goes back to sleep.

The mouse says, thank you.

And she runs to the forest as fast as she can.

A few days later, the mouse plays hide and seek with her friend again.

She climbs a tree to hide.

Then she hears King Lion's roar.

He roars in pain and fear.

Help! Please help me.

He shouts. She quickly runs to find the lion.

She can't believe her eyes.

King Lion is in a net hanging from a tree.

And he is very sad.

He tries to get out, but he can't.

At first, the mouse is scared to help him.

But later she thinks.

Now it's time to help King Lion. He needs me.

Why are you in this net, King Lion? She asks.

The hunters put this net to catch me.

I can't move, he says.

Don't worry, King Lion. I can help you.

I can cut this net with my sharp teeth.

You can be free, says the mouse.

The lion smiles when he hears this.

Then the mouse bites the net and King Lion is free again.

King Lion is very happy.

He holds the mouse in his hand and says.

Thank you very much.

You are a little mouse, but you are my hero.

You're my best friend from now on.

The mouse smiles happily.

She isn't afraid of the lion anymore.

Now they are great friends.
