Unit 4. Part B. Track 6. Read and listen to the sentences, underline the names of the

disasters. Around the world, many natural disasters like storms, lightning, tsunamis,

and floods occur. Let's have a look at them.

1. Lightning can hit a tree or a building. It can kill people and burn places. There is

always thunder first. Thunder has a loud sound, but it is not dangerous. 2. A tsunami is an

extremely large wave in the sea. An earthquake underwater creates a huge wave. This wave is

very strong, so it can destroy homes and big cities.

3. In a flood, there is water everywhere. Streets and houses are under the water. No one can

drive or walk through a flooded area. 4. In a drought, the weather is very hot and there

is no rain. All plants and animals die because there is no water when there is drought. 5.

Many trees burn down and many forest animals die. 6. Earthquakes happen in many parts of

the world. In an earthquake, many houses and buildings collapse because the earth's surface

shakes suddenly and violently. 7. Tornadoes often hit the towns in the USA. They are very

strong winds, cars, trees and even houses can fly away in tornadoes.
