Unit 3. hard times. page 36. reading. from rags to his dreams. the inspirational
story of Usain Bolt. by looking at his fast cars, dark glasses, luxurious life,
and numerous trophies, you can think that the Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt's
life has always been full of achievements and wealth. however, that is not the case.
the multiple -time Olympic gold medalist grew up in a village under very bad
living conditions and suffered from financial problems. in his childhood
walking through his village was like going back in time. there were no street
lights in the area where he lived. in addition, the old men there used to ride
their donkeys to go somewhere. children used to gather at the village
fountain to fill buckets of water because they didn't have running water in
their homes. they used to play on the streets and wave at the passing cars and
foreigners for fun. for Usain Bolt, life was not that simple though. he was
interested in playing football, so he used to play football with his brother in
his neighborhood. he also loved playing cricket, so he used to attend cricket
tournaments. and, of course, he always loved running. in his village, it was
unusual for a person to become a good runner and attend the Olympics. they
used to be a good guy. and his dreams came true. thanks to the support of his
cricket coach, he started training. and gradually managed to rise to the top of
the athletics world in different tournaments. this doesn't mean that he
didn't hit rock bottom at all. on the contrary, he fell on hard times and had to
go through many difficulties, but in the end, he was able to overcome all those
problems and inspire the people around him, despite the obstacles in his
environment. he showed that if people pursue their dreams and work hard, they
could be successful. he is retired now, but he is still considered the greatest
sprinter of all time.
