MTV Video Music Awards.

The MTV Video Music Awards, VMA, are presented by the MTV channel to honor the best works

and artists in the music video medium.

The annual VMA ceremony attracts millions of young people, aged 12 to 20 worldwide.

The awards are sometimes called the Oscars for Youth.

The VMA was originally conceived as an alternative to the video category of the Grammy Awards,

which, since 1959, had been presented to outstanding work in the music and recording industry

in about 100 categories.

The first VMA ceremony was held in 1984 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall.

MTV Video Music Awards were not very popular at first, however since 2001, they have become

what most people in the pop music world long for.

Each year, the VMA ceremony is held in either New York or Los Angeles in late August or

early September, and it is broadcast live on MTV.

During the ceremonies, popular singers or groups put on colorful shows.

Awards are currently presented in 18 categories, such as Best Pop, Best Hip Hop, Best Rock Videos,

Best New Artists, etc.

The winners are given The Moonman, a small statuette of an astronaut on the moon.

It is one of the earliest representations of MTV.

It was created by the designers of the original MTV logo.

The 30th MTV Video Music Awards ceremony was held on August 25, 2013 in New York.

It drew a total of 10 .1 million viewers.

Justin Timberlake was the big winner of the night with four awards.
