Good afternoon everybody. Welcome to our show Why So Serious. It's a sunny afternoon.
Today we'll discuss what a selfie is and why it has become a serious problem for us.
To talk about this topic, we have a guest, Mrs. Godman. She's an IT coordinator in a well -known company.
Hello Mrs. Godman. Hello everybody. Thank you so much for inviting me.
Mrs. Godman, you already know our topic, so I want to ask a question. It's a common and a well -known word nowadays,
but maybe some people still don't know it. What is a selfie?
Selfie is a photograph of yourself, and mostly you take your own photo. In other words, you take your own photo with a smartphone, webcam or camera.
A good definition. Thank you. And we all do it right. My second question is, why do we take selfies?
We want to be loved. In fact, we look for happiness. We want everyone to like our photos and us.
If we think that people don't love us, we feel sad. That's the first reason of taking selfies.
Hmm. Interesting. You say we feel alone and unhappy, so we take selfies.
Exactly. Another reason is we want to get the attention of people around us.
This means we want to show them that we always have fun and enjoy our life. We're always happy.
We think this will direct their attention towards us, and they will be interested in us.
Oh, really? Is it true? Can we draw their attention by taking selfies?
Sometimes, but mostly nobody cares about you because everybody does that. Everybody is taking a lot of selfies and shares them every second.
I see. When everybody does that, it is not attractive anymore. What about the negative effects of taking selfies? Is it really dangerous?
Yes, it is. The first negative effect is addiction. You may get addicted to taking selfies, and you may want to do it all the time.
It means you spend most of your time doing it. Another disadvantage is accidents.
Many people risk their lives while trying to take some adventurous selfies such as near the cliff, top of the mountains, while driving, etc.
This is too dangerous for their lives. There are a lot of people in the world who have died while taking selfies.
This number is increasing, so people must be cautious about it. They shouldn't risk their lives just for a photo.
You're totally right, Mrs. Godman. I hope we'll be more cautious from now on. Thank you for sharing this information with us, and thank you for joining us.
My pleasure. Hope to see you next time.
