Ataturk, a great leader and commander.

Read the texts about Mustafa Kamal Ataturk and do the following exercises.

1. Birthplace and Birthday.

Mustafa Kamal Ataturk was born in Salonika in 1881.

We don't know the exact date of his birth,

but we accept his birthday as May 19, 1881, because it is the day he went to some soon.

2. Ataturk's family.

His father's name was Ali Razayafendi, and his mother's name was Zubida Hanam.

They had six children.

Their names were Fatma, Amit, Humur, Kamal, Makbula and Najiya.

Unfortunately, Fatma, Amit, Humur and Najiya died when they were little.

Ataturk got married to Latifah Ushakli on January 29, 1923.

3. Autotorks Childhood and Education.

Mustafa Kamal grew up in Salonika.

His father sent him to Semcea Fendi School.

He was a smart and hard -working student, and all his teachers loved him.

He was very good at maths.

He was also interested in history, and he always wanted to be a commander.

He went to military school to make his dream come true.

He also learnt French there.

4. Ataturk as a great warrior.

Ataturk was a great soldier and commander.

He fought against enemies in different parts of the world.

On August 30, 1922, he won a great victory.

He defeated the Greek army and saved our country.

5. A New Turkey.

After the war, our country was very poor.

There weren't any big factories in the country.

There were serious problems with the economy, health and education.

Less than 10 % of the Turkish people could read and write.

So, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk and his friends worked very hard to found a modern and strong country.

6. Ataturk's Staff.

Mustafa Kamal Ataturk had a very difficult life.

He spent 13 years fighting in wars.

In 1937, he became very ill, but he didn't stop working for the country.

He traveled to many cities in Turkey, even when he was ill.

On November 8, 1938, his illness became more serious.

At 9 .05 on November 10, 1938, he died.

All the Turkish people cried after him.
