In 1953, the ninth British expedition team came to Nepal to climb Mount Everest.

The leader of the group, John Hunt, chose two pairs of the mountaineers.

The first pair started to climb on 26 May 1953, but they returned because they had a problem

with their oxygen sets.

The second pair was Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

They were from New Zealand and Nepal respectively.

They started to climb a day after the first team and reached a summit on 29 May 1953.

Hillary was the first to step on the summit.

They stopped there and took photographs.

They spent only 15 minutes at the summit.

They suffered from cold and snow.

Also, their backpacks were 14 kilograms.

It was a difficult experience,

but they were the first to reach the top of the Mount Everest.

Queen Elizabeth gave Hillary and Hunt the title of night.
