The hare and the turtis.

Hair lives in the forest.

He is loud and lazy.

But he is very fast.

He has got long, strong legs.

He is a good runner.

Hey!

You know what?

Says hare to all the animals.

I can beat anyone in this forest at running.

He says.

All the animals look at each other.

I can run very fast.

Look at me.

Hair says.

He starts running in the field.

Yes, he is very fast.

All the animals say.

Hair feels proud.

Who wants to race me?

He asks.

Do you think you can beat me?

The animals are all quiet.

They don't say anything.

Ha ha ha.

You aren't brave.

You don't even want to try.

Says hare.

You are all afraid of me.

Because you are all very slow.

I am the fastest.

Suddenly, they hear somebody laughing.

Why are you laughing?

Asks hare.

You think you can beat me in a race?

He says.

Turtis says.

You are fast.

It's true.

But I'm very hard working and stubborn.

I never give up.

He looks at hair and says.

I want to race you, Mr. Hair.

Hair laughs and says.

Ha ha ha.

Really?

You are funny, Turtis.

You haven't got strong legs.

Your legs are weak and short.

You are very slow.

I don't want to waste my time racing you.

What's the matter?

Are you afraid of me?

Says Turtis.

Some of the animals laugh at that.

Hair gets angry.

I'm not afraid.

He yells.

Alright then, Turtis.

Let's have a race right now.

We can see the winner then.

Not now, says Turtis.

We can race next week.

I need time to train and get ready for the race.

Next morning, Turtis gets up early.

He starts training in the forest.

First, he does some stretching exercises.

And then starts to run.

Some animals watch him do his training.

They are surprised.

Is Turtis running?

asks the fox.

He is very slow.

He isn't running.

He is just moving.

And says the owl.

Are you sure you can do this, Turtis?

The monkey asks.

I mean, hair is very fast and you are well.

Don't worry, says Turtis.

This is my first day of training.

I work hard and I can win the race.

Just wait and see.

I'm very energetic and I have got a week to exercise.

On the day of the race, all the animals come to watch.

Turtis walks slowly to the starting line.

Then hair comes.

He is very fast.

He has got new sports clothes and trainers.

The fox is the referee.

He points to the starting line and says.

The race starts here.

Then he points to the white banner on the other side of the field.

It finishes at the white banner over there.

The first one to touch it is the winner.

Time for the race, says hair.

He looks at Turtis and asks.

Are you ready, Turtis?

Are you ready to see some speed?

I'm ready to race you.

Let's start, says Turtis.

Ready, steady, go!

Says the fox and the race begins.

Hair runs very fast.

Then he stops and looks back.

He sees Turtis near the starting line.

He runs back to Turtis and says.

Don't you hear the fox?

You can start the race.

I am running, says Turtis.

Hair starts laughing.

He says, you are very slow.

You can't win the race.

Hair runs as fast as he can.

Turtis follows him slowly but steadily.

After a few minutes, hair feels tired.

He looks down the road.

He can't see Turtis.

He thinks, Turtis is slow and I am fast.

I can have a rest here.

I can still win the race after I wake up.

He can't catch up with me.

So, he sits under a tree and falls asleep.

Turtis is slow, but he keeps running and never stops.

After a short time, he sees hair sleeping under the tree.

He smiles and passes hair.

In the afternoon, Turtis gets close to the finishing line.

All the animals are there to see the winner.

They are very excited.

They see Turtis first, but they can't see hair.

I can't believe it, says the elephant.

Turtis can win the race.

Everybody is surprised.

All the animals start cheering.

Come on, Turtis.

They're shout.

You are near the finishing line.

You can do it.

Don't stop.

Turtis keeps running slowly but steadily.

The noise of the animals wakes hair up.

He looks across the field.

He sees Turtis near the finishing line.

He is shocked.

He starts running as fast as he can.

Oh no, he says angrily.

I am the fastest.

Turtis can't beat me.

But it's too late for him.

Turtis keeps going and finishes the race first.

Hair is the second and he is very sad.

He can't believe he loses the race.

Turtis is tired, but he is very happy.

The animals give Turtis a trophy for winning the race.

Hair starts to cry.

He says, it's not fair.

Let's race again.

But nobody listens to hair.

Turtis is the winner.

They all shout happily.
