Rapunzel
Rapunzel
Rapunzel, once upon a time, there lived a man and his wife in a small house on a hill.
The only wish of this lonely couple was to have a child.
So, when the woman was pregnant, they felt very happy.
From the little window at the back of their house, the young couple could see a wonderful
garden.
There were beautiful flowers, plants, and herbs in it, but nobody could get into the
garden because it belonged to a bad witch, and there were high walls around it.
One day, the young woman saw some fresh lettuce in the garden.
She wanted to have some to make a salad.
She called her husband and said, We don't have any plants in our garden because the
soil is hard and stony here, but look at that garden.
Can you see that fresh lettuce?
I want to eat that delicious vegetable.
The man was surprised, but that belongs to the wicked witch.
I can't go there.
He said.
The young woman was very sad.
She didn't want to eat anything else.
After a few days, her husband started getting worried about her.
What's the matter with you?
He asked.
If I can't eat some lettuce from that garden, I will die.
Answer the woman, sadly.
Okay then, said the man.
I will try to get some for you.
In the afternoon, the man climbed up the high wall and got into the garden of the witch.
He picked a bunch of lettuce and brought it to his wife.
The pregnant woman ate the lettuce and said, It tastes delicious.
I want more.
Please bring me some more.
The man was afraid of the witch.
That's why he didn't want to go to the garden again, but it was important for his wife.
The witch can't see me in the dark and I can take some more lettuce.
He thought.
The next day, when it was dark, he climbed over the walls into the witch's garden again.
When the man took some lettuce in his hands, he saw the bad witch standing in front of
him.
Thief?
Shouted the witch.
How dare you come and steal from my garden?
The man was very scared.
He knew that he was in big trouble.
He begged the witch to forgive him.
My wife is pregnant.
She saw your lettuce from our window and wanted to eat some.
The witch smiled.
If that's the truth, you can take as much as you like.
She said, But only on one condition.
You must give me your child when it is born.
I will be its mother.
No, I can't do that.
Said the man.
Then your wife and your baby will die tonight.
Said the witch.
The man's eyes were full of tears.
No, don't harm them.
I will give you my child.
He said.
A few months later, the woman gave birth to a pretty baby girl with green eyes and blonde
hair.
That very same night, however, the witch came to their house and took the baby away.
She named her Rapunzel.
The man and the woman were very sad, but they couldn't do anything.
As time passed by, Rapunzel grew into a beautiful girl with golden hair.
The witch never cut her hair, so it grew very, very long.
Rapunzel loved combing her hair.
Her favorite activity was singing songs, so she played and sang songs in the forest every
day.
When Rapunzel was 16 years old, the witch lacked her in a tall dark tower in the forest.
The tower didn't have any stairs or doors.
There was only a small window at the top of it.
You will stay here, said the witch.
When I visit you, you will let your long hair down from the small window so that I can climb
up and get into your room.
Every day, the witch climbed up and reached the window.
She brought the girl some food and water.
Then, she went away.
Rapunzel was alone in her room all day.
The cruel witch never allowed her to go anywhere.
Rapunzel could just stand at the little window and sing songs.
The same thing happened every morning.
The witch came to see Rapunzel, and when she wanted to go in, she stood beneath the window
and cried, Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.
Rapunzel let her hair down.
One day, while Rapunzel was standing at the window singing songs, a handsome prince was
passing by on his horse.
He looked here and there to see where this beautiful voice was coming from.
It was such a lovely song that he stopped and listened to it.
The prince noticed that the voice was coming from the tower, so he rode his horse towards
it.
He wanted to climb the tower and looked for a door, but he couldn't find one.
He went back home, sadly.
Rapunzel's singing touched his heart so much that he started going to the forest every day
to listen to Rapunzel's songs.
One day, the prince was standing near the tower when he heard the witch coming.
He hid behind a tree, and he heard what the witch said, Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down
your hair.
Then, Rapunzel let down her beautiful long hair, and the witch climbed up the tower.
Oh, that's the way to reach there, he thought, I will do the same.
The following day, the prince went to the tower again.
He waited until it was dark.
He felt very excited.
He stood beneath the window and cried, Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.
The hair fell down immediately, and the prince climbed up.
Rapunzel was very surprised to see the prince.
Who are you?
She asked.
I heard you sing, and I fell in love with your voice.
I wanted to see you.
Answer the prince.
You're the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life.
Please, let me take you away from this horrible tower.
The handsome prince was very kind and friendly, so Rapunzel liked him.
Yes, please take me away, said Rapunzel.
But how will I get down from this tower?
You can use my hair and climb down, but I can't follow you.
Don't worry, I will find away and come back tomorrow, said the prince.
Unfortunately, the witch saw the prince when he was climbing down the tower.
Oh, so he wants to take Rapunzel away, she thought.
And he will never see her again.
The witch was very angry.
The witch climbed up the tower after asking Rapunzel to let down her hair.
How could you think of going away with a man?
You betrayed me, and you'll pay for it, Rapunzel.
She shouted angrily.
Rapunzel was scared.
Then, the bad witch took a big pair of scissors and cut Rapunzel's beautiful long hair.
After she cut Rapunzel's hair, the witch angrily said, years ago, I lacked you in the
tower to hide you from your real mother and father.
Now, I have to take you away from the prince.
So, she took Rapunzel to a faraway place on her broom because she didn't want the prince
to find Rapunzel.
Rapunzel was shocked to learn the truth about her parents, but she felt so hopeless that
she couldn't do anything to stop the cruel witch.
The next evening, the prince came back to the tower to take Rapunzel away.
The witch was waiting for him there.
She cast a spell on the prince and turned him into a blind man.
He couldn't see anymore.
The blind prince walked day and night without seeing anything, but he was determined to
find Rapunzel.
He wandered around for months with the hope of hearing Rapunzel's voice once again.
One day, while he was walking in the forest, the prince reached the place where Rapunzel
was.
He suddenly heard that beautiful voice.
He started shouting with excitement, this is Rapunzel.
She is singing, where are you Rapunzel?
When Rapunzel saw the prince, she ran to him, oh, my prince, you finally found me.
She shouted happily and she hugged him, I'm so happy to see you that I can't stop crying.
She said, her tears fell on the prince's eyes and the prince could see again.
The prince took Rapunzel to his castle.
They were very happy to be together again.
However, Rapunzel was sad about one thing.
She wanted to see her real father and mother.
The prince found her parents and invited them to the castle on their wedding day.
Rapunzel was the happiest woman in the world.
She had a real family now and they lived happily ever after.
