Five Turkish traditions that you'll find weird.

A. Henna Knight.

The bride's female friends apply Henna on the bride's hands and their own hands altogether and celebrate their friend's marriage.

They dance, sing songs and have a lot of fun at the Henna Knight celebrations.

V. A car convoy honking on the streets.

On special occasions, several people drive their cars honking their horns loudly on the way.

So, if you hear a lot of car horns outside, you can be almost sure that either a wedding is taking place or people are sending their relatives or friends to their military service.

It could even be that their favorite football team has become the champion.

C. Turkish Tea.

No matter where you go in Turkey, it is traditional to be served a cup of Turkish tea as a sign of the host's hospitality towards their guests.

This is a tradition that is comment not only at houses, but also at shops, hairdressers, grocery stores and so on.

Serving tea also shows the host's generosity.

D. The Ramadan Drummer.

Ramadan has been celebrated not only by the Muslims in Turkey but also by all Muslims around the world.

The Ramadan Drummer is a tradition whose roots date back to those old days when no alarm clocks existed.

That's why every neighborhood then had a Ramadan Drummer who walked around beating his drum in the middle of the night in order to wake people up for midnight breakfast or meal.

Nowadays, these drummers still exist and beat their drums to continue the tradition.

E. Offering Cologne to your guests.

In Turkish culture, offering Cologne to your guests as soon as they arrive at your home and sit down on the sofa is a very old tradition.

It dates back to the times of the Ottoman Empire.

Today, Cologne is still offered in some households for no reason.
