Hello, my name is Bill Ody.

I'm a conservationist.

A conservationist protects and preserves the environment and wild animals.

My main job is to protect wild animals that are endangered.

If an endangered animal becomes extinct, we will lose the entire species forever.

Extinction occurs all over the world, and as a result we lose mammals,

fish, carnivores, herbivores, birds, and reptiles.

Some examples include the Javan tiger that lived in the mountains of Asia,

their great orchid bird that lived on the islands around Europe,

the Californian Golden Bear that lived in the forests of North America,

the grease fish that lived in the lakes of South America,

and the southern day frog that lived in the rivers of Australasia.

People often ask me, why do animals become extinct?

The main reason is the actions of humans.

We hunt fish and kill animals to extinction for sport, food, medical products,

and for their fur and skins.

We also destroy their habitats by cutting down trees for natural resources

and to build houses.
