Track 4 .9

Modern Egypt is built on the foundations of ancient Egypt.

Although they are the same country and some things remain the same,

some differences have developed over time.

One of those similarities is religion.

It plays an important role in modern Egypt, as well as in ancient Egypt.

Religion has always been used as a guideline for the government.

However, while women were respected and religion allowed people to be equal in ancient Egypt,

in modern Egypt, women are discriminated by religious rules.

These rules still hold a high priority.

Secondly, ancient and modern Egypt both had social classes with an absolute leader at the top

and farmers at the bottom.

The absolute leader in ancient Egypt was the Pharaoh, who was like a god.

The current leader is a president, who is an absolute and flawless ruler.

Creativity is another similarity.

Ancient Egyptians invented things that are still in use today, such as paper and the calendar.

Modern Egyptians have also invented things such as stronger cement that can withstand high heat and pressure.

In terms of their governmental systems, ancient Egypt and the modern one are similar to each other.

Both have an absolute leader and use religion to enforce laws.

In ancient Egypt, those who were threats to the existing system used to be forced to leave the country.

And it is no different in today's Egypt.

As for the differences, it can be said that the River Nile was the most important thing for ancient Egyptians.

They lived where the water was, but now modern Egyptians migrate where the oil is.

Another thing which has changed a lot is the culture.

The culture of modern Egypt is influenced by Saudi Arabian culture.

This has caused women to be treated poorly, because in Saudi Arabia, women aren't really respected.

However, in ancient Egypt, women played a great role in society.

And sometimes even rulers were women such as Cleopatra, who made Egypt a wealthy place.

The reason why ancient Egyptians weren't affected by Saudi Arabians is that they were isolated by deserts.

And not many people migrated to Saudi Arabian countries.

In short, it is true to say that on one hand, Egypt has preserved some of its values,

but it has also gone through some changes in time.
