I'm sorry. I can't. I must do exercise. I'm afraid we can't. My favorite sport is swimming.

Which sports do you like? Can you ride a horse? Yes I can. No I can't. Not really.

Shall we play volleyball? Great. Let's play. Chapter 8. The sports camp.

Summer holiday. Yasamin and her friends go to the sports camp in Antalya. They can do lots of sports at the sports camp. Yasamin wants to do her favorite sports there. She also wants to find Arda in Antalya.

My favorite sport is swimming. I want to go swimming now. Would you like to come with me? Well sorry but I want to go cycling. It's my favorite sport. What about you Tim? Not now. I don't like swimming.

Oh really? Which sports do you like? I like jogging. Let's go jogging. Oh no I am going swimming. Would you like to come with me Colin?

That's a good idea. Let's go swimming. I can't swim well. How about ice skating? Wow can you ice skate? Not really. But I can try and learn. Oh you can fall and break your leg.

Would you like to come with me to the ice rink in the sport hall? Okay I am coming with you. Someone must save you right?

At that moment their sports teacher Mr. Taha comes. What's your plan for today kids? A. Which sports do the students want to do? Mr. Taha wants to learn this. Read the dialogue on page 96 again and match the students with the sports.

Mr. Taha laughs when he hears their plans. Well you can't do these sports. Why not? Because there is a camp program and you must follow it. Oh okay. Where is the camp program? I must ask some questions because I want to plan a different program for each student.

Oh great. Who wants to start? Would you like to start Yasimin? Sure. Ask me first. I can answer your questions. B. Mr. Taha wants to learn Yasimin's abilities. He asks some questions and Yasimin answers them. Look at the pictures and complete the dialogue between them.

Example. Can you do gymnastics? No I can't. Can you play baseball? No I can't. Can you roller blade? Yes I can. Can you climb walls? Can you climb? No I can't. Can you do karate? No I can't.

All the students answer the questions. Mr. Taha writes their camp programs. Yasimin looks at her program. She is shocked. She looks at her friends. They are shocked too.

This camp program is so full. This is a sports camp. Not a holiday camp. I must teach you all sports. See?

Four days pass and Yasimin writes about her camp routine in her diary. Read it and fill in the table about her camp program.

Eighth June. Dear diary. It's the fourth day of the sports camp and I'm angry with Mr. Taha. He is really crazy. I want to do the sports I like but Mr. Taha says I must follow the program. The program is terrible. I wake up at seven o 'clock every day. I have breakfast and I start doing karate at eight o 'clock.

I'm very bad at karate but Mr. Taha doesn't care. I play baseball at half past nine. I hate baseball. It's boring but does Mr. Taha care? No he doesn't. At quarter past twelve I have lunch.

It's gymnastics time at one o 'clock. At quarter to three we go while climbing. It's very hard. At seven o 'clock in the evening we go camping in the forest

and half an hour later we have dinner there. We go to bed at ten o 'clock. I'm tired and bored. I hate this camp. I want to leave the camp and find Arda.

It's the fifth day of the sports camp. After dinner Yasimin and Georgia sit around the campfire. They aren't very happy with their daily routine at the camp.

They talk about the camp but Yasimin can't understand anything because she is very tired. This camp is awful. I hate it.

Could you repeat that please? This camp is awful. I hate it so much. Oh yes it's very bad. How is your program? It's terrible.

I go trekking and I play tennis. I go skateboarding and I do workout too. I don't enjoy these sports. I hate doing so much exercise.

Can you repeat that please? Trekking, tennis, skateboarding and workout. Are you listening to me?

Oh I'm sorry. I'm very tired. I can't hear you well. I understand. I'm very tired too.

Can you repeat that please? I say I'm very tired too. Would you like to go to bed? You don't understand me. Also you look ill.

Could you repeat that please? Go to bed. You look ill. Fine. Why are you shouting? Because you don't understand me. How do you feel? Are you ill?

Can you repeat that please? How do you feel? Are you ill? Well I have a headache and a stomachache. I also have a backache. I'm very tired Georgia.

This camp program is awful. I don't want to do any sports. I just want to rest in bed. We must leave this camp as soon as possible. How about escaping from this camp tomorrow?

That sounds great. Let's go and find out about tomorrow. Then we can go home. Yes, you can go to bed now. Go and sleep. I can tell our plan to our friends.

D. Read the dialogue on page 100 again. Look at the pictures below. Which of them are in Georgia's sports camp program? Tick them.

The next day Yasmin wakes up early. She is ready. I must escape today and I must find Arda and take my treasure back she thinks. She and her friends meet at breakfast. They make a plan. Then they go to the wall at the back of the sports hall. They start climbing the wall. Mr. Taha sees them. They start running to the forest. But Mr. Taha is very good at running.

He catches them in the forest. He takes them back to the camp. He is very angry.

Are you trying to run away from the camp? You don't want to do sports? Fine. Here's your quiz paper then.

Quiz paper? But it's a sports camp.

Yes, but you don't want to do sports. So just sit down and answer the questions about sports.

This is crazy. It's not fair. Stop complaining and start. You have 10 minutes. Now. E. Match the names of the sports with the pictures.

Mr. Taha checks the quiz papers.

Good. You can start doing sports now. Follow your program. You must get ready for the tournaments.

Tournaments? What tournaments? Sports tournaments of course. We always have tournaments at the end of the camp. Winners get gold medals.

Real gold? Yes, real gold. Wow.

This news changes everything. Students get excited and they enjoy doing sports now. They want to train.

A few days later.

That's enough, Tim. You can stop doing karate now. That's enough, Vavara. You can stop doing gymnastics now.

I'm sorry, but I can't. I want that medal. I must work hard.

No. I can't stop. I want that medal too. Can I go while climbing again, Mr. Taha?

No, you can't. It's bedtime.

But I don't want to sleep. Aren't you tired?

Well, maybe a little. But I want that medal.

That's enough. Go to bed now.

No, Mr. Taha. Please.

Go to bed right now.

F. It's the big day. The tournament day. Before the tournament, they must fill in a form.

Read Yasamin's diary below and fill in her form.

17th June. Dear diary, I want to win that medal so much. I train very hard. I'm good at rollerblading and cycling, you know.

Now I can climb too. Also, I can play basketball and I can do gymnastics. But I can't do karate.

I try really hard, but I can't. It's very hard. I think I can win a gold medal in rollerblading, cycling, climbing, basketball, and gymnastics.

I like these sports, but I can't win a medal in karate.

After the tournaments.

Mr. Taha announces the winners. But before that, he gives a speech.

The names of the winners are on this paper, but I want to tell you something first. I know medals and tournaments are exciting, but don't do sports only for these.

Do sports because it's fun. Do it because it's healthy.

Doing sports makes you strong and fit. Doing sports isn't about winning. It's a lifestyle.

You're right, Mr. Taha.

Good. Would you like to learn the names of the winners now?

Yes!

Gee. Match the gold medals with the winners.

The students are very happy. They sing and jump.

Shall we celebrate this?

I'm sorry, but we must find Arda. We can find him later. Let's celebrate this first. What can we do to celebrate it?

Georgia, Tim, Wang Shu, Varvara, Yasamin, and Colin make their suggestions.

H. Write their suggestions below. Use Let's, How about, or Shall we?

Example.

Ah, okay, Yasamin. Let's go find him. We can celebrate our gold medals later.

Wait for me, Arda. Yasmin thinks. I'm good at sports now. I'm strong and fit. I run fast.

I climb very well, and I'm not alone. You can't escape from me this time.
