exercises. Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was an important political leader, lawyer, social

activist and writer. When he was a very young boy, he was interested in human rights. When

he was 19, he went to college in England because he wanted to study law. After he graduated,

he went to South Africa. Eventually, he became a lawyer and worked there for a long time.

In that period, he realized something very bad. White people in South Africa treated Indians

very badly because they had darker skin color. The South Africans thought that they were better

than the Indians. When Gandhi noticed that, he felt very upset and worried. He thought this

was not right. This was unfair. He tried to find a solution to change that bad situation.

When Gandhi returned to India, he noticed the same thing in India too. White people in India

were treating Indians badly. At that moment, Gandhi decided to fight against this unfair

attitude. He worked very hard and became a civil rights leader. He fought to provide equal

human rights to Indians. He started campaigns to fight against the bad attitude towards Indians.

He led a successful national struggle for independence of India. He became the symbol of

Indian's non -violent independence movement against British imperial rule. He also improved

the rules about women's rights, civil rights and religious freedom. He made better rules

for the society. People loved him very much because he was a great leader. In 1948, he

was killed by a fanatic.
