Siget Festival is one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe.
It is held every August in northern Budapest in Hungary.
It takes place on Obudar Island on the Danube River.
It began during the fall of the Soviet Union to provide arts programming for students.
The week -long festival has grown from a low -profile student event in 1993 to become one of the biggest iconic European rock festivals,
with about half of all the visitors coming from outside Hungary, especially from Western Europe.
The festival lasts for an entire week, each year in August.
Siget offers more than 1 ,000 performances and is now labelled the Burning Man of Europe for its otherworldly atmosphere.
In 2011, Siget was ranked one of the five best festivals in Europe by the Independent.
The festival is a two -time winner at the European Festivals Award in the category Best Major European Festivals in 2011 and 2014.
The festival brings the biggest names from all music genres across nine stages and boat parties, as well as an amusement park, chill -out areas, a beach and more.
In short, the festival truly has something for everyone's taste.
Siget is more than just a music festival.
