Unit 7. Facts about Turkey. Track 7 .1

So, why is the discovery of Gobekli Tepe so important?

There is enough evidence to claim that it is the most significant discovery of the 21st century.

Can you believe that today we are excavating nearly all perfectly intact?

I mean, not damaged remains of the 12 ,000 -year -old Gobekli Tepe.

Why do you think the temple is so intact?

The reason why it is so is still a mystery, because the site was buried underground by an unknown group of people after 1 ,000 years of use.

Really, the temple is still not known why.

What should be understood from the date 10 ,000 BCE?

As far as I know, it dates back to the Neolithic period.

Certainly, to 10 ,000 BCE, it means Gobekli Tepe is approximately 8 ,000 years older than the pyramids built in 2 ,600 BCE and Stonehenge built in 2 ,500 BCE.

It is even older than the human transition to settled life.

Therefore, contrary to the wildly held view, it proves the religious beliefs prior to the establishment of the first cities.

It is mind -blowing. What can you say about the ongoing excavations?

Approximately 20 temples have been discovered in the region, but only six temples have been uncovered so far.

Besides, two tea -shaped pillars have been found in the area.

During the construction of these pillars, stone tools were used.

What about its additions to UNESCO World Heritage List?

Well, it was first added to UNESCO temporary World Heritage List in 2011.

It stayed there for seven years, and then in 2018, it was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List.
