Shall we grade six? Reference book.

Unit nine, saving the planet.

Shall we magazine?

Exercise 16.

Read the article and do the following exercises.

There are eight planets in the solar system, but people can only live on Earth because it has air.

If we pollute the air, we can't live here on Earth.

I want to tell you how people pollute the air and give you some suggestions for preventing air pollution.

Some factories don't use filters, and they pollute the air.

Also, people always drive their private cars, and exhaust fumes from them pollute the air.

So, to prevent air pollution, factories should use filters, and we should use public transportation.

If we pollute the water, we pollute the air too.

People need oxygen to live, and 60 % of our oxygen comes from planktons, small living beings in seas.

Factories pour their waste into rivers, and people drop litter into seas.

This kills planktons, so to prevent air pollution, we should keep the water clean.

Trees produce oxygen and clean the air.

Forests are the lungs of our planet.

If we destroy forests, we pollute the air.

So, to prevent air pollution, we shouldn't cut down trees, and we should plant more trees.

Everybody needs paper.

Factories cut down trees to produce paper.

If we waste a lot of paper, factories will cut down more trees.

So, to prevent air pollution, we shouldn't waste paper, and we should recycle it.
