A robot breaks free.

A robot broke free and escaped from a research laboratory in a Russian city on the 15th of June 2016.

Of course, it caused a traffic jam.

This is not a scene from a science fiction movie.

It really happened, and it was in the headlines of all the newspapers.

The robot was walking in the yard of a robot company, but soon ended up on the busy road outside.

It blocked the traffic until its batteries ran out.

So, it stood in the middle of the road for nearly an hour without moving.

All the vehicles had to drive around it.

Police officers parked their car in front of it, with the blue light flashing,

in order to warn drivers about this obstacle.

The robot was a very interesting object for children.

They wanted to go near it and talk to it.

When the policeman called the laboratory, an engineer arrived and picked it up.

He moved it out of the way, with the help of the policeman.

The robot's name is Promobot.

It ran away from the research laboratory when an engineer forgot to shut the gate.

Promobot was practicing automatic movement in the yard of the laboratory,

and the engineers were testing its ability to avoid obstacles on its way.

Russian researchers created this robot to help customers and shops.

Promobot has the ability to answer questions, give directions, and remember people's faces.

But it has a problem.

It often tries to escape.

So the company engineers are now planning to take it apart and make scrap metal from it.

They are glad that the robot didn't harm anyone or hit any cars on the road.
