When you travel, you encounter cultures that are home to different customs and traditions.

Some of them might be completely new to you, and some others may seem odd, crazy, strange,

or even bizarre to you.

Sometimes you will find it hard to understand them, whereas those rituals look perfectly

fine to the followers of that specific culture.

Here are some examples.

The first one is from Northern Europe.

It's about what they do with baby teeth.

Children put their baby teeth under their pillows because it's believed that the tooth fairy

visits them in their sleep at night.

The fairy takes the baby teeth and puts some money instead.

This is an ancient tradition.

Similarly, another tradition about teeth is from Africa.

In Southern Africa, local people bury their wisdom tooth under a giant stone because the

wisdom tooth under the huge stone helps them to protect their well -being.

Punctuality is important for Brazilians in a different way.

If you are invited to dinner, for example, don't be punctual.

Arrive at least 30 minutes late, since this is an important tradition for Brazilians.

The more you make people wait for you, the more respectful you are.

This is just the opposite of what most of the country's attitudes towards punctuality.

Japanese people like giving and receiving presents.

However, they never accept the gift at first.

They refuse and say, no thank you.

French people like following the rules.

They especially follow the customs and traditions when they are invited to an event.

French people never serve any drinks before all the guests have arrived, even if some are

an hour or more late.

If your host is French and you are one of the guests, never pour your own drinks except water.

Because offering something to drink means it's okay for the guests to continue the night there.

If the guests aren't offered another drink, it's time to go home.

Here is another country, Egypt, and they have a very interesting tradition about drinks.

For an Egyptian family, being hospitable is important.

They like serving beverages or something to drink to their guests.

But if you are the guest, you should remember to drink all of the juice, especially if the

family has daughters.

It is a common understanding that if a guest doesn't finish the glass of juice offered

by a host family with daughters, then these girls won't get married.

The last interesting tradition is from Italy.

You know Italians like singing, dancing, and having fun together.

This is the way they celebrate many things, including the New Year.

However, this tradition is different from the usual ones.

They also welcome the New Year while drinking lentil soup in the island of Sicily.

Sicilians think lentils, which are round and small and similar to coins, bring money for the coming year.
